  • About Us

Friends of Hawaii Robotics is a registered Hawaii 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, non-partisan organization, formed to support Hawaii school's robotics programs statewide.

Recognizing the importance of promoting robotics at an early age and sustaining students' interest in STEM education, "Friends" supports Hawaii's seven robotics programs in elementary, middle and high schools statewide.

As stressed in the National Academies report Rising Above the Gathering Storm, "...students must acquire such skills as adaptability, complex communication, social skills, non-routine problem solving, self-management, and systems thinking to compete in the modern economy." Hands-on robotics education has proven to be a successful STEM education pathway through which students become engaged with learning and their excitement is ignited.

Friends of Hawaii Robotics' year-long commitment and mission is to create opportunities for students to develop essential 21st-century life skills, preparing them to become Hawaii's leaders of tomorrow.

  • Just The Facts

    • Nearly 80% of Hawaii public high schools are participating in a scholastic robotics program.

    • 55% of all public schools are participating (K-12) in one or more of the seven robotics programs supported by “Friends.”

    • Over 500 teams statewide (every island) participate in robotics.

    • Robotics students are twice as likely to major in science and engineering in college; of all students, young women are four times as likely to major in science and engineering.

    • Upon entering college robotics students are ten times as likely to pursue an internship with a company.
